interesting article, thanks for posting it. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a link to something in the brain.
IBS can be very painful(with the bloating/cramps etc...) -- obviously some sort of nerves in the GI tract are inflamed
I have bad IBS and it can be really a PITA because it can make everyday activities a challenge. LOL unless you have a bathroom within a short distance, you sometimes don't even want to leave the house because it can be that bad.

stress is a huge catalyst for IBS and for me, it is but also the fact that I have fibromyalgia and IBS is often linked(in many people) to that as well.
I have to have a colonoscopy back in May to check out my lower GI and I also had an endoscopy to check upper.
My stomach has always been weird but we have Crohns in our family(my moms side) and so they thought maybe I had that. Thankfully no Crohns, no Celiac, just very bad IBS.
I take a probiotic called Align(GI specialist told me) and it helps a lot.
but again, usually bad flare ups come from stress or my dumb choice to eat something that Im not sure if it will upset my stomach! LOL you'd think Id know better and just not eat it assuming it's going to make my stomach mad!

Oh well, shit happens!
