Here's a few healthy snack suggestions, some with staying power:

Hard-boiled eggs
Cheese
Slice of deli meat wrapped around a pickle or cheese
Yoghurt
Cottage Cheese
Nuts
Fruit
Veggies with hummus

I've made protein bars before that were quite good. Although the protein powder I was using has artifical sweetener in it, which I'm trying to avoid. Have to find one (that isn't super stupid expensive) that doesn't have that crap in it. Here's the recipe:

HOMEMADE (RE)FUEL BARS <---recipe source
Makes 5 bars

Ingredients:

•1 cup oats
•1/4 cup all-purpose flour
•1/4 cup protein powder
•1/2 cup egg whites
•1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
•1/4 cup raisins (I use dried cranberries ... and sometimes add sliced almonds)
Directions:

•Preheat oven to 350*F
•Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well
•Spray an 8 X 4 loaf pan with non-stick cooking spray (or line with parchment)
•Spread batter into pan evenly and use a spatula to flatten
•Bake for 12-15 minutes
•Allow to cool before cutting

Those bars sound really good, as soon as I get my hands on some protein powder I'll have to try them.

Thanks for the suggestions, I have to admit I completely forgot about things like yogurt and cheese- duh!

I've had a bit more of an appetite and I think it's due to settling in more, running more, and having food that's not quite so... difficult for me to know what to do with!

Well, it's been a while!

I accidentally had some HFCS the other day when I had ketchup on some fries. I forgot to check. However, it was at a restaurant that had local, organic salads and I had one of those- that makes up for it right?

I've stopped eating sugar essentially because of some health issues. I still eat fruit, but I'm not eating sweets of any sort anymore. It's really difficult, but things are improving health wise so it's worth it. Plus, because it is for a specific reason, not just general health things, I've been able to keep it up.

For snacks I've been having carrots with peanut butter, cheese, and pecans (not all at the same time).

I think I'm going to work on being a vegetarian. I don't buy meat, but my summer roommates have been cooking a TON of meat and I don't think it's particularly good for me.

Cooking wise (of my own), I've made quinoa a couple of times and I LOVE it. The texture is incredible, and although so far it just seems to taste like whatever it is cooked with, that's not a bad thing!

We're going to a buffet tonight at one of the casinos nearby. Apparently it was the top rated buffet in the city last year. I don't know if there will be healthy options, but I'm going to try. I haven't been buying processed foods though! I think it has become a sort of lifestyle thing!!

I've been having some general leg pain during my runs. I don't really know what to do about it. It's nothing specific and it comes and goes. I should probably just avoid pavement as much as possible.
