Cops haven't busted down the door yet so I guess I'm okay. Andrew pointed out that the guy may have left the drive unattended on the counter on purpose since he could see I was having an issue and wanted to keep it but couldn't technically allow me to keep it.

It was total chaos in the apple store with the iPad launch so I don't think they could really keep track of what was going on anyway.

haha good for you! Even if he didn't mean for you to get it back, the guy probably knew he was at fault for leaving it unattended and so reporting you makes him look bad too. Especially for a computer that has a known problem with bad hard drives, I bet Apple does not analyze every single one.
